Description: Composition Workshop – Build Our Eye, Together

There’s the rule of thirds, and leading lines, but what about everything else?

How do I make great compositions and train my eye to see great images before I press the shutter?

Composing Compelling Photos is a practical, hands-on workshop designed to help you see — and shape — your photographs more intentionally. Rather than focusing on rules or formulas, we’ll explore composition as a perceptual skill: something learned through practice, reflection, and discussion, not memorisation.

We’ll unpack the seven core visual elements of photography — such as tone, line, space, and texture — and look at how photographers arrange these ingredients into powerful visual designs like balance, movement, pattern, framing, and one-point emphasis. Through guided examples and group activities, members will learn how these choices influence mood, meaning, and emotional impact.

This session includes plenty of practical exercises, image deconstruction, and collaborative discussion — both for those attending in person and on Zoom. Whether you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed by advice, or simply curious to deepen your visual awareness, this workshop will give you new ways to think about — and practice — composition.
