TRIBUTE TO MYANMAR
In 2014, I embarked on a photographic journey through Myanmar, capturing its vibrant culture, serene landscapes, and resilient people. For my 2025 portfolio, I’ve chosen to revisit these images, not just as memories, but as a testament to the country’s beauty and spirit before the upheaval of the coup and the devastation caused by the recent earthquake.
These photos stand as a tribute to the Myanmar that was, and a hope for the Myanmar that can be again.
Wasureru
From a trip to Japan in 2024 to a handmade book and enclosing box, my project explores decay and abandonment due to demographic changes in rural areas of Japan.
Through sequencing and the large page size of approximately 15 inches square I hope the viewer might experience something of what I did at these locations.
One month after its long-awaited reopening, Notre-Dame stands renewed, restored from the ashes of the inferno that almost destroyed it five years before. These photographs celebrate the majesty of this iconic Gothic masterpiece while also honouring the people whose presence now breathes new life into its walls.
Captured during an early winter morning mass, these images reflect a space alive again with worshippers and visitors welcomed from around the world. To witness and record an hour of worship in a cathedral that has come to symbolise resilience and renewal is a deeply moving experience.
En Passant
"The art of today, while still based in tradition, required us to embrace the new technologies that have changed the World. Photography and Printmaking are two areas that have changed dramatically in recent years"
This excerpt taken from the book "Invisible Realities" written by Lyne Marshall, painter, sculptor and printmaker is, I think, particularly apt in relation to my Portfolio, which has been photographed entirely on my phone - the camera I always have with me.
