    Duration: 3 to 4 hours
    Venue: Cockatoo Island
Description: Cockatoo Island - Friday 19 August
Our August outing will be to Cockatoo Island in Sydney Harbour. A UNESCO World Heritage Site the island was originally heavily timbered sandstone knolls.

Heritage buildings, distinctive terrain, panoramic views to the Harbour Bridge and around the harbour, it includes cafes, picnic spots and is just a ferry ride from Circular Quay.

    Getting there

We suggest getting there by about 10.30am, to give time to wander, time for lunch and time to get home. This would mean a 9.45am ferry, or go earlier if you want. We will meet for lunch at 12.30pm.

The easiest way to get to Cockatoo Island is by public ferry. The F3 and F8 services operate to Cockatoo Island daily, departing from Circular Quay and Barangaroo as well as from wharves along Parramatta River.

For further information, including timetables, visit the Transport NSW website. Ferries leave at 8.45am, 9.45am and so on and take 30 mins to get to Cockatoo Island. They also leave every hour from Cockatoo Island back to Circular Quay. https://transportnsw.info/documents/timetables/93-F8-Cockatoo-Island-20220422.pdf

You can also visit Cockatoo Island by water taxi, private boat or kayak.

    What to see and do

There are a number of landmarks on the island - see attached PDF.

All the island is accessible by walking. There are also tours, if you are interested in booking. They last 60 mins, https://www.cockatooisland.gov.au/en/see-and-do/tours/#mod-14804. $16 at time of writing.

There are two cafes on the island serving lunch and snacks. The hours open for August are not yet available, but presumably will be ample for our needs. We will plan to meet at the Marina Café & Bar at about 12.30pm for those that would like to eat lunch together.
