DIGITAL

In analogue photography both the image density and image tones provide a continuum of values. Photographers who are using film and are using conventional printing in the dark room are still working analogue. In digital photography the image is broken up into discrete entities called pixels and each pixel and the tonal colours which make up each pixel may only have discrete values. Photographers who use digital cameras, scanners, monitors, printers and modern photo finishing labs have introduced digital in to at least a part of the process.

While many photographers and camera clubs have regarded digital photography as a threat to the traditional way of doing things, at Northside Creative we have warmly embraced the digital age. The use of digital introduces efficiencies into the image production process as well as opportunities to add creativity to photographic expression.

We will be introducing a series of articles on digital photography techniques. The first of these is an instruction for members on preparing images for entry into electronic digital imaging contests. As the ubiquitous slide projector makes way for the data projector we have prepared an informative article on the considerations for purchase of the latter.
